A heartwarming story of a child's birth and life in the fictional rural village of Simpkinsville, Arkansas. Written in 19th century rural dialect, and filled with the local color of Southern life. Stuart wrote various books on Sonny, and many novels of about Arkansas in the 19th c. 13 full page glossy half tone plates by Fanny Y. Cory. Cory (1877-1972, Danville, Va.,) was a professional children's illustrator for nearly 40 years by the time she got into the comic strip business. She sold her first drawing to St. Nicholas magazine in 1896, her works also appeared in Life, Sat. Evening Post, Scribners, Frank L. Baum's Oz series, and Alice in Wonderland. Green cloth boards, with Art Noveau style decorations in green, white and gilt. Gilt lettering to front board and spine. Mild bumping and rubbing of spine. TEG. Very light wear. Dedication page through to page 5 have faint small damp stain to upper corner. All else clean, tightly bound. sm 8 vo., 135 pp.
