"The Boy," and Jabe (from "Red Fox"), play a big part in the adventures of the beaver. With 30 full page glossy (B&W) plates (of wilderness animals), including a color frontispiece. Drawings by Charles Livingston Bull (1874- 1932) who was the premier wildlife artist of his time in America. Decorations by Frank Vining Smith. Brown cloth boards and spine, color pastedown of wolf in the wilderness, gilt title. Dulled gilt title panel to spine, with illustration of a beaver. Upper spine end rubbed, 1/2 tear to upper front hinge, 1/4 to upper rear, lower spine end rubbed. Illustrated end papers in green. Front hinge cracked, e.p. upper 4 inches separated, short closed tear, small chip to edge to title page. Verso of e.p. owners name in pencil, offsetting from pre-title. Works of Roberts to verso of pre-title page. Tissue covered color frontispiece, "Face to face with a tall bull moose" in red ink. Title page in black and red ink. All else solidly bound. Text and illustrations clean and bright. Blind stamped leaf to rear lower board, 6 pages of ads to rear. First Edition- First Impression May 1908.
