Most noted for his detective fiction (humorous), with black stereo type dialect. Featuring Detective Florian Slappey, described as a "sepia gentleman". Considered the Beau Brummell of Birmingham, Ala., and James H. Hanvey, who is white and has more friends in the underworld than in legitimate circles. Come Seven, was originally written as a play in 1920, staring Earle Foxe as Slappy, (Steinbrunner & Penzler, Encyclopedia of Mystery & Detection), it got to Broadway and did 72 performances . Black cloth boards illustrated boards, yellow lettering and decorative profiles of man and woman. Upper and lower spine end bumped, upper rubbed, edges rubbed.
