A beautiful emotional testament to faith after the passing of a loved one. When Pearl S. Buck returned on assignment (filming of her book The Big Wave) to Japan after her last visit 25 years ago, she discovered a new Japan. The dramatic changes in the men and women and their relations to one another were a startling contrast to the old order. She found not only great beauty in Japan but much graciousness from her friends, both old and new. After her husband's death she found solace and understanding, sympathy and inspiration. Her sense of humor helped her work through amusing frustrations of castsing, the foibles of stars, warring directors and the demands of film empire protocol. She shares these thoughts and much more as she strugled to accept and adjust to her new life alone. DW by Kazue Mizumura. Dark blue cloth boards and spine, Buck's name blind stamped to front board.
