| 1. | OLSEN, JACK. THE BRIDGE AT CHAPPAQUIDDICK. Boston: Little Brown & Company, 1970. Hard Cover Very Good in Very Good dj On the week-end of July 18-19, 1969; at the time of theEdgartown Regatta off Martha's Vineyard, a black Oldsmobile sedan plunged over the edge of a narrow bridge on Chappaquiddick Island. Discovered the next morning in overturned car was the body of Mary Jo Kopechne. Many hours after the accident Edward ''Ted'' Moore Kennedy, U.S. Senator of Massachusetts, and potential leading candidate for the Presidency of the United States, walked into Edgartown police station and said he had been the driver of the car. Yet another tragic ordeal involving a Kennedy, and ordeal fraught with confusion, mysterious discrepancies and unforeseeable political consequences for both Senator Kennedy and the nation. The accident was surrounded by rumor, theorized upon and became more and more suspect and impenetrable. Jack Olsen, an award winning experienced reporter, went to Chappaquiddick Island to research a book the would deal with the tragedy in terms of its political consequences, and social implications. As he examined and reexamined the scene of the accident and interviewed over and over the Islanders, it became clear that this book would not only explore the broader implication, but would also have it fathom the tragedy itself, in explicit detail.
