Mademoiselle de Beleau, born in France she fled with her parents in 1683 to England to avoid Frances persecution of the Protestants. Defoe's last novel, about a woman's fight for her and her children's survival, by living a life of sin as the mistress of wealthy powerful men. The fortunate mistress has many dark periods of misfortune, as Roxana relates her fall from middle class, to depths of trading her beauty and body to acquire great fortune with the only asses she has. Written in autobiographical form. Drawing illustrations by Andre' Dugo.
