Carl Sandburg, Galesburg, Illinois(1878-1967). An epic novel of American-history, published when Sandburg was seventy. This book follows the growth of the American dream. Taking us through over three centuries of our nation's history. Sandburg's historic novel spans from the founding of Plymouth Colony, the American Revolution and Civil War. to World War II, and includes a cast of characters as vast as the landscape itself - Puritans Covering puritians, heretics, revolutionaries and Tory loyalists, abolitionists and slaveholders, even a Supreme Court Justice. Sandburg a favorite American poet, historian, and novelist folklorist, 'the singing bard'. In his work Sandburg gave voice to least powerful people. He was a central figure in the 'Chicago Renaissance', he played a significant role in the development in poetry that took place during the first two decades of the 20th century. His emphasis on the tradition of American experience associate him with Hart Crane and Robinson Jeffers. A robust novel, rich in details of American strength, endurance, and courage to build a nation.

Color illustrated wrap around dw, upper edge rubbed, few flea bite chips, short 1/2 closed tear to upper spine end, 1 inch chip to lower. Rear corners chipped, upper eddge 1/2 closed tear, 3/4 inch closed tear to rear upper joint. Few small chips lower edge, 3 1/2 closed tear to lower joint with 3/4 inch chip at end.
