The main purpose of this book is to explain the larger themes of biology today. Divided into six chapters: ''The Cell,'' ''Evolution,'' ''Genetics,'' ''Development,'' ''Simple to Complex,'' and ''Man''. Upon thoroughly discussing the the development, complexity and associations, in the fourth chapter of ''Man,'' Bonner applies these ideas of to man, and considers his development, genetics and evolution. While it also both possible and important to consider man's ecology, his changing role on the face of the earth, and the consequences to his environment, to the other animals and plants that surround him, and to his own future. Dr. Bonner also points our those things we do not know, as biology is a science in which remain many important unsolved problems. A good book for supplementary reading of the student, and for the layman to the central ideas of biology.
