Sheppard, Charles Scribner's and Sons, NY 1890: This is Page's first collection of short stories of the antebellum South. Avid literary spokesman for mythical glories of the Old South; would-be land of noble gentlemen, ladies, contented slaves, & a society ordered by the laws of chivalry. Marse Chan is narrated by a faithful ex-slave, of a young southerner who died for the southern cause. Frontispiece, etching by W.L. Sheppard.
Green cloth boards & spine, embossed gilt head to front board, gilt title, auth, pub to spine. Spine ends & edges mild rubbing, corners bumped. All else clean, tightly bound. Very good + copy. Round blue small Brentano's sticker to lower edge of rear pastedown. 16mo, 239 pages. Very early copy of these old southern tales.

Lavish gilt stamped tree motif with two portraits, title and author, MA stamped to end of design. Stamped gilt title and decorated spine, mildly darkend. Spine ends bumped, rubbing of extremities. Hinge crack at page 18. Old previous owners name written to e.p., with Christmas 1900. Mild random fox spots to first few pages. TEG Clean, solidly bound. 168 pp., sm 8 vo.
