1 Miller, Warren Flush Times
Boston Little, Brown, and Company 1962 First edition Cloth Near Fine in Very Good DJ
A panoramic novel of Cuba pre-revolution party of wealth, secrecy and corruption, through Batista fleeing, and Castro's Revolution. A thirty year old well bred American, Jonathan Weller, finds himself following his estranged wife to Havana, hoping to persuade her to return. Jonathan inevitably is drawn into the corrupt, sensual world of the American smart set: socialites, movie stars, nightclub comics, big time and racketeers. Armed with luck and money he falls in love with a woman determined to destroy her past and adapt to the new Cuba. Through Jonathan's eyes the reader travels to the Prado, narrow back alleys, the new hotels in the Vedado, dark casinos, Spanish nightclubs, a cafe near a deserted university, where students huddle over books and revolutionary ideas; small occult shops, and a host of people who offer special services. The book offers a broad range of eccentric characters, bizarre and eerie citizens of questionable background, and many amazing hilarious incidents. These scenarios, against a back drop of tense upheaval, presents a remarkable picture of dissolution and degeneracy in an exotic lush setting, with everything intensified by the hot tropical sun. Creme color cloth boards and spine, red letterig to spine. DW not price clipped, orange and blue pictorial to front, photography of author to rear, orange and blue lettering to spine. Few small closed edge tears. Few bite chip to rear upper edge. Clean text, tightly bound. 8 vo., 370 pp., First Edition. In protective mylar.
