This time it is the Brethren of the Meeting House and the Deacon's of Jonesville. Written in a back-country dialect, with all the humor and goings on of a tightly knit 19th century small town. Profusely illustrated with drawings throughout. Marietta Holley, (1836-1926), American writer, popularized women's rights and temperance doctrines under the pen names Josiah Allen's Wife and Samantha Allen. She was called the female Mark Twain of her day. Publishers Appendix to rear concerning General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church of 1888, in regard to the admission of women delegates. With Six addresses delivered on the floor of the conference during the progress of that discussion. Red pictorial cloth with gilt title. Spine illustrated mild darkening. Upper spine end two chips, lower bumped. Pages 384, and facing illustration have small spot stains, to marginal areas. Penciled owners name and 1892 date to verso of frontispiece.
