Greene's in depth self examination, a fascinating autobiography by one of England's most distiguished writers. Henry Graham Greene, B. Hertforshire, England, 1904 - 1991: English playwright, novelist, short story writer, travel writer and critic From his childhood, and youth as a writer he reveals the conscious and unconscious elements that formed his style and provided material for his novels. The child of an intellectual Edwardian family (his father a headmaster and scholar; his years at Oxford; his involvement with the Secret Service (foreshadowing a lifelong interest in the grubby realities behind the facade of espionage); his apprenticeship as a journalist and his early years as a writer. In his own words, "I have preferred to finish this essay with the years of failure which followed the acceptance of my first novel." Black cloth boards and spine. Pirated edition from Taiwan. An off beat 1960's treat: Henry Pulling is a bank clerk who loves raising Dahlias, and lives a quiet life, until meets up with his 80 year old Aunt Augusta. Henry soon becomes absorbed in his Aunt's unusual and ihedonistic lifestyle. A lively funny adventure as they travel first to Istanbul on the Orient Express, becoming involved with drugs, spies and currency smugglers, and a host of other characters. This is a Taiwanese bootleg edition. Dust Jacket looks exactly like the original, binding different. Green cloth boards and spine, white lettering to spine. DW not price clipped, lavender, illustrated, blue spine. Upper spine ends few small chips, upper and lower corner flap crease, rear flap same. Rear lower flap edge 1 inch closed tear, lower joint and edge same, uooer joint edge 1 inch closed tear. Mild foxing to e.p. clean, tightly bound. In protective mylar.
