New York Astor Honor 1961 First edition thus Original Wraps Very Good + Edward Gorey
A macabre Poe like story of a child who becomes orphaned and sent to a horrible boarding school. A bizarre twist to Frances Hudgson Burnett's The Little Princess. Gorey's somber, gothicesque, Edvuard Munchish illustrations to each unpaginated page. Teal blue stiff wraps with dragon illustrations to front and rear. Rubbing of extremities. Previous owners name written to top edge of title page. Few rub marks to wraps. Clean text, solidly bound.24 mo. Edward Gorey, Chicago 1925-2000; illustrator, writer. Gorey had a fantastical imagination in both words and illustration; with his off beat humor and gothic type illustrations.
