1 CODY, HELEN WETMORE AND GREY, ZANE . THE LAST OF THE GREAT SCOUTS BUFFALO BILL Inscribed by his Niece
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1918. Cloth Very Good in Very Good DW
The life story of Colonel William F. Cody, "Buffalo Bill," told by his sister, with a forward and conclusion by the greatest American author of Old Western fiction, Zane Grey. From his early boyhood roots in Iowa (February 26, 1845- died 1917 Denver, Co.), and his first Indian encounter, through his years as a 'pony express' rider; then Chief Scout, engaging in the most dangerous of Indian Campaigns. A man whose bravery and exploits made him a larger than life celebrated character of the "Wild West". She describes the origins of many of the successful tours of his "Wild West Shows," how he received trademark name "Buffalo Bill", his bravery fighting Indian uprisings, that captured the attention and imagination of America and Europe, and much more. Included is a Genealogy of Buffalo Bill, and the "Preface of the First Edition". Inscribed (generically) by Mary Jester Allen, was the niece of Buffalo Bill; when her Uncle died she had a vision and dream to build an inspired national shrine and museum to memorialize him, and the early pioneers of the West. It began as a modest log cabin in the then remote Cody, Wyoming in 1927 which was modeled after his Ranch House on the Southfork of the Shoshone River. Through time, perseverance and local support it evolved into a monumental historical center, now encompassing five museums, research library, and a majestic testament to the historic Wild West!
