Sydney "Paddy" Chayefsky, (Bronx, N.Y. 1923-1981), the most renown American dramatists (playwright, screen writer), to emerge from the "golden age" of American television. His realistic, intimate, portraits of life played a critical part in the shaping of television drama in the 1950s. During Chayefsky's early television career he wrote episodes for Danger and Manhunt in the early 1950s. His scripts came to attention of Fred Coe, producer of NBC's live anthology drama, the Philco-Goodyear Playhouse. Chayefsky's first script, Holiday Song in 1952 won critical acclaim when it aired. His scripts frequently drew on the author's upbringing in the Bronx. The natural dialogue of his second generation American characters created a realistic portrayal of their lives, struggles and humor.
