Boyd of English decent, played an active role in the Colonization of Australia in time and monetary generosity during the years of 1843-1853. He remained loyal to the Colonization and people throughout his life. He dedicates the book to The Colonists of Australia and New Zealand. Lord Bacon described his work as "the heroic work of colonization". Boyd's remembrances and anecdotes of persons and incidents both Anglo an Scottish, people such as: Thomas Wag Horn, who shortened the overland route between England and India, Hon. Sir Arthur Wesley; Colonel James Farquharson McAllen; Dr. Blomfield Bishop of London; Lord John Russell, Corn Laws; Thomas Campbell Scottish poet; Viscount of Kenmore; Lord Lochinvar; Lord Nelson At Antigua, etc. Along with political instances and people going back to the 17th Century, of sieges, battles.
