Historical novel of the migration West, to the Mississippi and across during the early 1800's. The central character is a Long Hunter, men who went on long expeditions through the heart of Indian country, many times alone. "The actual writing employed in this novel iss noteworth. Descriptions, events, actions, thoughts, and reflections are told with the words and the way a person of the times spoke and thought." American Novelist, James Boyd, 1888-1944, novel "Drums" was considered one of the best novels written about the American Revolution, his historical novels were known for their detailed accuracy, psychological and sociological awareness, and formal craftsmanship.

Dark green cloth boards and spine, bright gilt title to front board, and spine with publisher to lower spine end. Mild bumping of spine ends, and rubbing of extremities. Faint previous owners name to corner of e.p., hinge crack at pre-title page, 1 inch closed tear to upper margin page 227. DW orange illustrated, not price clipped.
