1 SINGER, ISAAC BASHEVIS. ENEMIES, A LOVE STORY.
New York: Farar, Straus, & Giroux, 1972. First printing Cloth Near Fine in Near Fine DJ
Set in New York City in 1949, the novel follows Herman Broder the hero of this novel. His Polish family was wiped out during the holocaust. Herman escapes death by hiding out in hay loft for two years. Now living in Coney Island with his second wife, Yadwiga, the Polish peasant girl who helped him escape. Herman is also having an affair with another Holocaust survivor, Masha. While Yadwiga believes Herman is a salesman who takes frequent trips, he is actually a ghost-writer for the dynamic Rabbi Lampert. In a twist of fate Herman learns his first wife Tamara has survived, and is in America. Soon all three women know the truth about each others roles in Hermans life. In this work Singer expresses the strangeness and moral conflicts of life through situations that are almost to fantastic to believe, except that he makes us see they are all too true. Made into film in 1989.

2 SINGER, ISAAC BASHEVIS. GIMPLE THE FOOL AND OTHER STORIES.
Pennsylvania: Franklin Library, 1980. Signed Limited Edition Leather Bound Near Fine
Gimpel the Fool, published in 195 was Singer's first collection of short stories, masterfully translated by Saul Bellow. Taking place in the pre World War II ghetto of Poland, the protagonist "Gimpel" is modest baker, who appears to the village people and even his wife as simple and an easy target for cheating, practical jokes and other deceptions. Gimple's seemingly amiable behavior begin to have an effect on the cynical; however, he has a crisis of faith when his wife's infidelities push him to make a life defining choice. Illustrated with full page wood-cuts by Phero Thomas. Isaac Bashevis Singer, 1904 (Poland)- 1991 (Fl.), Polish American Novelist, short-story writer, Nobel Prize winner (1978). The son of a Hasidic, and leader of Modern Yiddish Literature. Singer also wrote various Children's books, memoirs and was a prolific short-story writer, which were translated and appeared numerous periodicals such as Playboy and Esquire magazines. His writing reflects the culture and lifestyle of Eastern European Jews; the complexity of family and religion, its richness in heritage, despair of poverty and hopefulness of a better life. "A special message to subscribers from Isaac Basheivs Singer," on how this collection of stories was almost published in Warsaw by Yiddish Publisher Boris Kletzkin, in Warsaw when Singer was about 29 years old. Additional stories: The Gentleman form Cracow; The Wife Killer; By the Light of Memorial Candles; The Mirror; The Little Shoemakers; Joy; From the Diary of One Not Born; The Old Man; Fire; The Unseen.
