1 Anderson, Isabel The Great Sea-Horse
Boston Little, Brown, and Company 1909 Cloth Near Fine John Elliott 
Lovely book of a father telling his son bedtime stories of the sea and other fairly lands. The Great Sea Horse, was like any other horse, except, he had a mane and tale of golden brown seaweed, and was web-footed. The creatures and mermaids called him "Great" because of his size and strength. Beautifully illustrated by John Elliott, with drawings 25 full page color illustrations from water colors, including frontispiece; tissue cover, and 2nd tissue with description. Various other stories included are: King Foxy; The Moon Baby; The Magic Lock; Forest School; Ocean Giant; The Ghost Pony; The Fairy Fleet; The Bold Sea Dwarfs; Whistling Bob and his Wicked Cat; The Maden of Rosyland; The Snow Fairies Ball, etc. 25 stories. Each with decorated head pieces, and decorated first letter. Color illustrated end papers and title page. Isabel Weld Perkins (1877-1949), descended from the wealthy Boston Brahmin who traced their history back to Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her father was Commodore George H. Perkins, commander of the USS Cayuga during the American Civil War. Anderson inherited $17 million dollars from her grandfather William Fletcher Weld, at the age of five. Anderson and her husband Larz Perkins left a legacy to the public that includes a park and two museums. Isabel Anderson's 'Preface,' "I have written these little stories, mixing the fantastic water fairies with real shells, curious fish, and birds of the ocean, and the land fairies with the flowers and trees, hoping to amuse children and at the same time to excite their interest in the many delights and beauties of nature. Weld, Brookline, June 1909. "Published December 1909". Bright red cloth decorated in gilt with sea baby riding on a strange fish and other sea decorations, gilt title. Mild sunning of spine.
